We will meet at the Portal del Roser to begin our adventure next to the iconic wall of Tarragona , the oldest construction of the Roman Tarraco and one of its symbols.
We will walk through the picturesque streets of Cavallers and Major , where you can admire the architecture with a medieval air and feel the vibrant atmosphere of the city. Our route will take us to the staircase that leads to the Pla de la Seu , in the Upper Part of Tarragona, where we will be welcomed by the majestic Cathedral of Santa Tecla , built on Roman, Visigoth and Arab sites and whose Gothic rose window will impress you. Nearby, the historic Forum Square awaits us, the ancient center of Roman social and political life, of which here we can see marvelous vestiges.
But there is still much more, since we will approach the National Archaeological Museum and stop in front of the imposing Torre del Pratorio or Castillo del Rey, strength where we will find the statue of a mythical character. Do you want to meet Augusto ? The first Roman emperor will welcome us looking at the sea to tell us about the splendor of this magnificent city's past.
Can you imagine what the exciting chariot races were like? We will head towards the Roman Circus , an architectural complex that ended up becoming embedded in the urban center of Tarragona, a fact that makes it one of the best preserved in the world.
From here our steps will take us to the UNESCO Plaza , located at a point that connects the upper part and the maritime neighborhood. This place commemorates the declaration as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000. of the archaeological complex of Tarraco, which includes a total of fourteen protected enclaves!
The time to end the visit is approaching, so we will have to do it in style. We will access the Miracle Park , a Roman garden terraced with native Mediterranean plants and which acts as a prelude to the Amphitheater , an impressive venue built near the sea where all kinds of shows were held, such as gladiator fights.
To finish, we will say goodbye from the Balcón del Mediterráneo , a very special viewpoint for the people of Tarragona located at the end of the Rambla Nova , from which you can enjoy a privileged panoramic view of the Mare Nostrum, the port and the amphitheater. The perfect corner to recommend the best places to taste the city's rich cuisine , a mix of fresh fish with local agricultural products, to combine with excellent wines or the typical vermouth as an aperitif.
