Lisbon Complete Tour of Downtown - Baixa and Bairro Alto
Tour description
Let yourself be carried away by the beauty of the historic center in one of the most incredible cities in Europe: Lisbon!
We will start our tour in Praça da Figueira, the "square of figs" and we will learn about the foundation, the origins and the various dominations that have influenced the Portuguese culture and language.
In the first part of the tour we will discover all the "baixa" (lower town) and the history of the most important squares, stations (Estaçao de Rossio) and sites of interest.
After knowing the history of the most important squares:
Praça Rossio, Praça Restauradores and the church of São Domingos, also known as the cursed church.. we will walk alongside the Santa Justa lift, a unique lift of its kind and also one of the first modern lifts in the city, but obviously not the only one!
In fact, Lisbon is famous for its typical trams and during our tour we will see the most famous ones:
starting from the Elevador da Gloria and ending with the most fantastic tram in Lisbon aka the one and only 28!
Furthermore, during and at the end of the tour we will give you some tips on how and where to take it to avoid the usual useless queues! ;)
In the second part of our tour we will get to know the most bohemian area of the Portuguese soul or the "bairro alto" (upper district) and we will discover the story of the three poets who have marked Portuguese history: Fernando Pessoa, Luis Vaz de Camões and Antonio Ribeiro, also called "Chiado".
Finally we will see the Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcantara , the most beautiful panoramic point of the Bairro Alto, we will get to know one of the oldest and most elegant cafés in the city, the Brasileira and we will also pass by the oldest bookshop in the world!
We will end our tour in Praça do Comercio, the main square of the city that overlooks the magnificent Tagus River!.
