Free tour Modernist Ourense
Tour description
We will meet at the indicated time in Alameda (in front of Plaza de Abastos Provisional). Accompanied by a guide in Spanish, on this visit we will return to Ourense de la Restauración.
The capital of a province, which ceases to be a completely closed medieval city, to expand with large avenues and extensions. This modernity is translated into architecture, where through the gaze of its greatest exponent, Daniel Vázquez-Gulías, we will visit the beautiful structure of the Alameda and the striking buildings of the Jardines del Obispo Cesáreo where the importance of commerce will surprise you. in the Ourense of the 20th century. Then we will continue towards the Plaza Mayor to observe the Casa Fermín and the curious tiles that it has on the façade, something not very typical of Ourense architecture; there we will also see the Town Hall , what could the 3 symbols that are in the forges of its balconies mean?
Next, we will arrive at Calle del Paseo where the bourgeois aura is still noticeable in its large buildings such as the Losada Theater , the Gran Hotel Miño or the old Bank of Spain .
We will now go down to Calle Progreso , the true promoter of this renewal in the city. Did you know that it was the first to give way to cars in Ourense, also connecting Vigo with the capital of Spain? In this great street we can see, among others, the Casa Losada , which may be the one that most reminds you of the modernism of the famous Gaudí.
Finally we will finish the visit next to the Municipal Tourist Office.
