We are a team of young professionals in art history and tourism, passionate about our country and our culture; we want to show and offer visitors all kinds of experiences. We have decided to dedicate ourselves to what we like the most, that is why we have trained as Galicia Official Guides and we offer both guided tours and accompanying guide services in different places in Galicia.
We will meet at the indicated time in front of the Virgen del Portal Church . Accompanied by a guide in Spanish, we will visit the Artistic Historical Complex of "Rippa Avia", the beautiful town that is located at the foot of the Avia river and in the heart of the Ribeiro.
You will be surprised to know that this delicious wine has the oldest Denomination of Origin in Spain.
Let's start! The free tour begins right next to the San Domingos Convent and the Virgen del Portal Church, the patron saint of Ribadavia and Ribeiro, to continue down towards the Castle of the Counts of Ribadavia and tour part of its wall. They wanted to tear it down in the 19th century but, luckily, a large part and 3 of its 5 doors have been preserved. One of them, the Porta Nova , will give us entrance to the historic center and the Jewish Quarter , registered in the Spanish Sephardic Routes. The tour will stop at a couple of viewpoints so that you can enjoy the views of the river and its bridges. Could it be that one of them reminds you of the style of the most famous tower in Paris?
We will also see some other churches such as La Magdalena or Santiago , which will show us the ecclesiastical importance that existed in the town and its surroundings.
We will continue the visit through small streets until we reach the House of the Inquisition and then we will go to the modern area to see the Old Banca Nogueira , one of the most important in the Province.
We will return to the historic area passing through the Plaza de Abastos and the Church of San Juan Bautista , founded by the Order of San Juan de Jerusalén. Clerics or military? We'll find out!
The tour will take us to learn about the history of the Touza Sisters. Did you know that they managed to save more than 500 Jews who were escaping from the Holocaust?
After this the tour will end in the Plaza Mayor .
Look for the white umbrella! (If it rains, we do the tour anyway)
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
