In this Free Tour through the traditional markets of Santiago de Chile, we will find one of the oldest neighborhoods in the capital, founded in 1601, and which today is the center of the city's supplies. This sector, formerly known as "La Chimba", is located on the north bank of the Mapocho River and for more than 100 years, the population that lived there was isolated from the southern area, where the large mansions and center of power of the Creole elite, after the founding of Santiago in 1541. The expression "After God, there is La Vega" reflects the popular feeling of this area, where a significant neighborhood was generated, a place inhabited by the most humble people of the city, between nationals and foreigners, despite being one of the richest sectors from the point of view of agriculture. The tour begins at the foot of the equestrian sculpture of Don Pedro de Valdivia, founder of Santiago, in the city's Plaza de Armas, to later head north of the capital, through the old "Camino del Inca", where We will explore the "Central Market", a gastronomic sanctuary of food from the vast sea that Chile has, no less than 4000 kilometers long, where you can enjoy the representative dishes of the country. Later we will go to the "Mercado Tirso de Molina" a multicultural area of typical restaurants, which houses nationals and foreigners, all with their rich variety of food and preparations for direct sale to the public. Later, we will walk to the current food market known as "La Vega Central", a place that houses the wholesale food markets of the city. Also, in the same area is the "Pérgola de las flores", famous for its homonymous play from 1960, represented by the most renowned actors of the Chilean theater. To conclude we will appreciate the street art that has been born as a consequence of national and foreign sentiment.
