Fantastic Walking Tour – A Perfect Blend of Medieval and Modern Madrid We had an amazing experience on this unique walking tour that took us through both medieval and modern Madrid. Our guide, the only one in the city offering this perspective, was incredibly knowledgeable and brought the city’s history to life with engaging stories and interesting facts. The tour struck a perfect balance between seeing major attractions and discovering quieter, more local spots that we never would have found on our own. Along the way, we enjoyed built-in stops to try a famous Madrid shot served in a mini chocolate-covered ice cream cone and later had a relaxing break with coffee and sweets—both thoughtful touches that added to the experience. Y’all… Marik is hands down the best tour guide I’ve had in Europe! I’ve done GuruWalk tours in a bunch of cities across Europe, but Marik’s Madrid tour completely blew me away. First of all — the guy is super charming, but more importantly, he knows his stuff. Like really knows it. Spanish history, culture, hidden corners of the city — he made it all come alive in such a chill and engaging way. We didn’t just hit the basic tourist spots. Instead, he took us to hidden gems around the wall, told us about the Muslim roots of Madrid, the tragic fire that destroyed the old Royal Palace, and even the wild story of how the Temple of Debod — a literal Egyptian temple — ended up here. He even gave us the rundown on Baldomera Larra, Spain’s OG scam queen, and somehow made it all flow like a Netflix docuseries I didn’t know I needed. If you’re in Madrid and want a tour that feels like exploring the city with a (very attractive, very smart) local friend — book with Marik. Trust me!!

Marik was an exceptional grout guide. His deep knowledge of the history of Madrid was excellent and he delivered the information with passion which made sure I was also very interested in what he was sharing. The local drink was a sweet surprise and the short coffee / beer / bathroom break 2/3rds of the way through was perfect to be sure we were all comfortable to make the full tour. An ideal tour and one I would certainly recommend.

March 12, 2025 Wilma Katz “From Medieval to Modern” with Marik of TRIP TOURS MADRID This was another great Guruwalk, my 4th and last this week in Madrid. The meeting spot was the Plaza Mayor where our guide Marik told us about its history including bullfights; a 9-day fire that destroyed the early wooden structure; kings, queens, lovers; and more! He led us up and down backstreets, often stopping to talk to us where we could sit on walls or benches. That was good because today’s walk was about 3 hours. Lots of history, lots of fascinating details. Marik is a wonderful storyteller. He included 2 stops, one where we could get coffee and pastry and another where we had madroño, a drink from the fruit of the same name and sold (I think) only in 3 spots in Madrid. It was served as shots in tiny, chocolate covered wafer cups (like ice cream cones). The little café was VERY inviting and I’d have returned if I’d had time. The weather was wonderful and actually sunny for much of the walk. We passed a restaurant called LaMucca near the Cervantes statue and before long, steep stairs leading to a spot where we could look out over the city at the end of the tour. I needed rest and food before walking back to my hotel so I stopped at LaMucca, on Marik’s suggestion. Wow! Excellent bread and the best salmon in my life! My walking tours this week were all excellent! THANK YOU!

It was truly one of the best free walking tours we ever did! You could feel that this tour was put together with a lot of thought and heart. Malik was a very nice and funny guide and the tour covered everything you could ask for. We learned a lot of interesting facts and would definitely choose this tour again!

Marik speaks clearly in English and has a wealth of knowledge about his subject matter. He enjoyed answering questions. We had a couple of lovely stops along the way - one for coffee at a great little place. The other was El Madroño, a restaurant where we each tasted the cherry-like liquor. We returned there for a wonderful dinner that evening.
