Sono un figlio di sesta generazione nato a Bokaap. La nostra comunità è discendente di schiavi ed esuli politici dall'estremo oriente. Come guida registrata a Città del Capo offro free walking tour nel citybowl e a Bokaap, condividendo la storia e la cultura delle nostre comunità con il mondo. Mi piacerebbe mostrarvi il nostro quartiere. Ho un forte legame con la comunità più ampia. Sono un direttore della Bokaap Tourism Association e un direttore del Bokaap Helpers Garden, un'organizzazione non governativa della città che si concentra sul giardinaggio comunitario. Ho una conoscenza approfondita di Robben Island, poiché ci ho vissuto per oltre 10 anni.

Get Up, Stand Up, Stand Up For Your Right. Ilyas gave the two of us the most enlightening and informative tour of Bo-Kaap this morning. Over two and a quarter hours we learnt about the history, culture, community and religion of this vibrant and historical part of Cape Town from a guide who was born, educated and brought up here, who knew everyone we bumped into on the tour and who was so welcoming. Top that off with a visit to a local home for some delicious koe'sisters and it makes this the best GuruWalk we've had to date anywhere in the world. Thank you so much Ilyas, your tour was brilliant. Very highly recommended to others.
The tour was amazing! Mohamed showed us around the whole community, shared sone great local food recommendations, told us a lot about the history and the culture of the Cape Malay community. 10/10, highly recommend for an authentic and enriching experience!
