I'm a 6th generation son born in the Bokaap. Our community are decendants of slaves and political exiles from the far east as a registered guide in Cape town I offer walking tours in the citybowl and bokaap sharing our communities history and culture with the world I'd love to show you around our neighborhood. I have a strong connection to the broader community. I'm a director of the bokaap tourism association and a director of Bokaap helpers garden. which is a NPO in the city focusing on community gardening. Have an intimate knowledge of Robben Island as a lived there for over 10 years too.
The free walking tour with Ilyas was the highlight of our one week trip in Cape Town. Ilyas went out of his way to curate the trip to our preference, and we learnt so much about the stunning area & history of Bo Kapp, as well as South Africa. Ilyas is a fountain of knowledge with so much to share and learn. Our only wish was for the tour to be longer!
A great walking tour! Nice guy; Muhammed. We went to his aunt who has made very nice sweet snacks.
Ilyas was an excellent guru. For those of us looking for more than the usual watered-down information from tourist guides, Ilyas provided an accurate context about the neighbourhood, along with a critical and political perspective from someone who grew up and still lives in the area. Exceptional! Highly recommended!
The perfect local experience with very good knowledge and humour. Doesn't do big groups, so very individual and a deep dive in the local community.
Amazing! Best walking tour I've ever done. Besides being a true local, Ilyas took us trough his neighborhood Bo Kapp, where he and his family have been living for 6 generations. He's a professional guide at a local museum as well. Super interesting all the history knowledge he shared with us regarding Cape Town, Malay Culture and all the Ethnic communities that made Bo kapp a true gem in the city
