Edinburgh and JK Rowling: Free tour of the history behind Harry Potter
Tour description
"Not all wizards are good" ... but his story was written in Edinburgh.
They say Edinburgh is the birthplace of Harry Potter, but if you're a true Potterhead, you know that JK Rowling spent years building this magical universe before setting foot in the city. However, it's undeniable that this is where her "pen" definitely integrated everything: every spell, every character, every plot and every corner of her universe.
So how much of what you've heard is true? On this tour, we'll uncover the myths and truths about the corners of Edinburgh that, it is said, inspired JK Rowling to create the saga that marked generations.
🔮 What will you discover on this tour?
- The street that inspired Diagon Alley (or maybe not) .
- The grave of “ he who must not be named ”… or at least, of his real-life namesake.
- The cafe where JK Rowling wrote part of The Philosopher's Stone , although it is not the one with the red facade with the elephant in the logo.
- The school that many swear inspired Hogwarts.
- Connections and references hidden in the cobblestone streets of the city.
Notice to wizards, witches… and clueless muggles:
If you already have your letter to Hogwarts or you're still looking at the sky hoping that your owl will arrive late; if you know that “Always” is not just a word and if you've surprised yourself by pronouncing Wingardium Leviosa with the correct intonation, then you've come to the right place,
this is your tour!
But if you are a simple muggle (non-magician) who just wants to get to know Edinburgh without enchantments or spells, you might prefer to join one of our other tours around
Edinburgh.
Because on this tour we don't just talk about Harry Potter... we live it!
