It was always coming to my mind how a small country like Luxemburg could stands independent in the middle of Europe. Luxemburg is a financial stronghold, EU control center and media giant, among others.
But to understand why this little country became that strong you will need to be introduce to the Old Town of the city of Luxemburg, where it all began.
From the time of the Roman Empire to the present day, the city grew on a natural fortress that will lead us to the origin of the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg.

I will be in front of the "Hôtel de Ville" (Town Hall of Luxemburg city) at Guillaume II Square
Luxembourg TOWN HALL. It is of neoclassical style, with symmetrical windows. It was a former Franciscan monastery (Knuedler - in Luxembourgish means knot).
Originally this square was a parade ground for the troops defending the city.
It is the official residence of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg and where he performs most of his duties as head of state.
Unicameral legislative body of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
It is the oldest Catholic church in the city, the first building was built in 987.
Known as the most beautiful balcony in Europe. Luxembourg was the most fortified city in Europe, but in the 2nd Treaty of London the neutrality of Luxembourg was established and to be sure, the fortifications of the city had to be destroyed.
Luxemburg is a fairly liberal country.
It dates to 1613 and was born as a Jesuit church. In 1870 it became recognized as the Cathedral by Pope Pius IX.
One of the most emblematic squares of Luxembourg, where we find the "Gëlle Fra", a war memorial that represents the fight for freedom of the people of Luxemburg.
