HI! My name is Lena and I have been living in Berlin for three years to study medicine. I chose Berlin not only for the countless possibilities to celebrate, but above all for the incredible history and cultural diversity this city has to offer. The longer I stay here, the more I learn stories and characters from the past that still have a decisive influence on life in Berlin today. I can't wait to share my knowledge and get to the bottom of the city together.
Dear history buffs!
Everyone is well aware of the historical significance of Berlin's tourist centres, and Neukölln, Kreuzberg & co also entice visitors to explore.
What is probably less present in our minds is knowledge about Germany's colonial past and how it is connected to Wedding and Sprengelkiez.
Apart from that, this neighborhood is a rather underrated, very pretty and central part of Berlin that you should definitely get to know!
The meeting point for the tour is Leopoldplatz (easy to reach with the U6), in front of the Nazareth Church. We walk together to Sparrplatz, then across Samoa and Kiautschou Street to Pekingplatz. From there we visit the former "Royal Prussian Institute for Infectious Diseases" - today the Robert Koch Institute - and end our tour in front of the Campus Virchow Clinic, where you can finally get back on the U9.
I look forward to joining you in searching for colonial traces in the Sprengelkiez!
I wait at the entrance of the old Nazareth Church with a red headband
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
