Little Africa Walking Tour in Rio de Janeiro
Tour description
The Little Africa Tour is a journey through the history of slavery and its transformation and adaptation in the city.
The tour takes place on one of the African Diaspora Routes worldwide, being part of the UNESCO Slavery Route Project.
It is a walk down memory lane with Africans and their descendants.
This tour is necessary for black consciousness against racism in the world and also for the value of black culture and history.
The narrative is decolonial, reflective and educational.
The route highlights the most important port of the slavery system in the past: the archaeological site Muelle de Valongo, and in Intituto Pretos Novos that were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2017.
It is a journey through the memory of history, pain, struggles and, despite everything, the resistance of the Afro-Brazilian people.
They reinvented themselves in the world of the diaspora, influencing civilizing values and also building the national identity so important and notable for Brazil.
Our language, food, music, the Brazilian soul is born in Africa.
