Half day walking city tour of Marrakech's Medina
Tour description
This 2.5-hour walking tour (which may extend up to 3 hours depending on group size and pace) offers an immersive introduction to Marrakech’s history, culture, and traditional craftsmanship, guided by a local passionate about sharing authentic Moroccan heritage.
🕌 Stop 1 – Koutoubia Mosque
We begin our tour at the iconic Koutoubia Mosque, Marrakech’s most famous landmark. Here, you’ll receive an introduction to the city’s history, Islamic architecture, and the importance of the mosque in daily life. The impressive minaret sets the tone for our journey into the Medina.
🌳 Stop 2 – Koutoubia Gardens
Our second stop takes place in the peaceful Koutoubia Gardens. This green oasis allows us to slow down, enjoy the surroundings, and dive deeper into stories about Marrakech, its dynasties, and urban evolution.
🚪 Stop 3 – Bab Agnaou
We then pass by Bab Agnaou, one of the main and most symbolic gates leading into the Medina of Marrakech. This historic gate marks the transition from the modern city into the old imperial heart of Marrakech.
🏰 Stop 4 – Kasbah Quarter
Next, we explore the Kasbah Quarter, a historic area that once housed sultans, soldiers, and royal families. This neighborhood offers a quieter, more local atmosphere and reveals an important part of Marrakech’s political and social history.
🛍️ Stop 5 – The Souks
We continue our walk through the vibrant souks of the Medina, where you’ll experience different atmospheres of traditional craftsmanship. Along the way, you’ll discover artisans at work and check about Moroccan products such as leather goods, ceramics, textiles, lamps and spices.
🎭 Stop 6 – Jemaa el-Fnaa Square
Our tour concludes at the legendary Jemaa el-Fnaa Square, the beating heart of Marrakech. Here, I will share my personal recommendations on:
• Where to eat
• Which restaurants to try
• Which places to avoid
• How to enjoy the square like a local
🍵 Traditional Herbalist / Cooperative (Optional Stop)
As an optional final stop (no obligation), I highly recommend visiting a traditional Moroccan herbalist, pharmacy, or cooperative. This is a unique cultural experience where you’ll enjoy Moroccan hospitality, taste a cup of traditional tea, and receive an introduction to:
• Moroccan spices
• Argan oil
• Natural remedies
• Traditional Moroccan products and crafts
This moment allows for relaxed discussion and a global overview of Morocco’s artisanal heritage and natural resources.
