New York City Bird Walk in Central Park!
Tour description
Join me on a birdwatching/birding walk in New York City to see a few bird residents that live and feed in Central Park!
I'm Steph - a content creator here in New York City who simply loves to talk about all things birds. You can check out my page on TikTok at @learnaboutbirds and my podcast, That Quirky Bird Girl, on Apple or Spotify podcasts.
Sparrows, Blue Jays, Northern Cardinals, and more!
We will take a stroll through Central Park, to experience and discuss what the park looks like through the seasons with our spring/summer birds arriving to enjoy the warm weather and plenty nesting spots.
During this tour, we will start at the southern entrance of the park! We will make our way north, discussing ducks and geese (maybe even pigeons, we can't forget about them!) along the way. We will pass by a few landmarks that are characteristic of the park as well as an art fair that is open during the spring and summer. Finally, we will arrive to the Rambles near the Bethesda Fountain. At this point, I will take a few moments to introduce participants to the Merlin app by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and we will practice using the app together as we walk through the Rambles to see more ducks, thrushes, or Blue Jays!
Our tour will conclude at Friedman's on 72nd St, where you can order a delicious warm drink to combat some of the winter cold!
For this tour, binoculars are not needed but highly recommended if you do have them. I will arrive with one extra pair of binoculars and am happy to share my other pair with any attendee. Please send me a message if you will require binoculars so that I can make sure that they are reserved for you on our tour :)
The tour will last about 2 hours, depending on walking speeds.
This tour is free and open to everyone! If you would like to tip and enjoyed your experience, please see the below tip guide.
Fun tour, and interested in more = $20
Great walk = $30
An excellent experience = $50
I accept cash, Venmo, and Zelle!
IMPORTANT NOTE: This tour is welcome to ANYONE and EVERYONE - if you are a slower walker, require walking aids, or in a wheelchair, I am happy to accommodate the tour to your needs. If you are blind or deaf/hard of hearing, I am happy to describe the birds thoroughly (if that is your preferred accommodation) or require that I stand close by as we discuss (again, same note on accommodation). If you or your child is autistic, I am happy to bring fidget toys and accommodate needs. If you are unable to offer a tip, I encourage and request that you attend anyways. Birdwatching or Birding is non-exclusionary and this tour is intended to be the same. Please send me a message ahead of the tour to ensure that I can support you or your needs as much as possible. If you are unsure, please send me a message anyways :)
Disclaimers: The completion of this tour is dependent on the birds we see as we walk. As such, the time length provided is an estimate.
I will try my best to accommodate needs and take alternative routes (if needed), please be advised however that if Park Services makes changes to paths during the day of our walk then I likely will not be aware of these and last-minute changes to our course may be needed.
