Hello, my name is Jan, I am licensed Austria Guide and I like to show visitors some of the most attractive historical spots of Vienna! As I believe in „you only see what you know“, let's walk and look together at some beautiful places and talk about their history and their celebrities. The Habsburgs have been key players in Europe for 650 years and this you can still see and feel in Vienna. Small groups, interaction and my enthusiasm is what you can expect. Looking forward to meet you, to show you around and to answer your questions!
Hello,
in this "classic tour" you will see some of the most attractive historical spots of Vienna.
I wait for you (RED UMBRELLA) at the ramp of ALBERTINA (PLEASE COME UP THE STAIRS), next to the STATE OPERA. Walking via JOSEFSPLATZ, passing through inner court yards of the HOFBURG we reach the HELDENPLATZ. After this huge complex of representative buildings we rush through the GOLDEN QUARTER (via Kohlmarkt) to the place called AM HOF and end at the JUDENPLATZ (centre of Jewish Community in Middle Ages).
I limit the number of visitors to max. 15 people and try to adapt to your interests and questions as much as possible.
I will be waiting (RED UMBRELLA) next to the entrance to the ALBERTINA Museum (PLEASE COME UP THE STAIRS) on the BASTION of the former Vienna city wall, in front of the EQUESTRIAN STATUE of Archduke Albrecht.
Place named after Archduke Albert of Sachsen-Teschen, married to Maria Christina, daughter of empress Maria Theresia, their residence on the remains of the OLD CITY WALL and his collection of art, the ALBERTINA. View at the STATE OPERA and the MEMORIAL AGAINST WAR AND FASCISM.
One of the most charming places in Vienna. The baroque STATE HALL with the former COURT LIBRARY surrounded by the Ballroom of the Habsburgs, the entrance to AUGUSTINIAN CHURCH, Palais PALFY and Palais PALLAVICINI.
The former RESIDENCE of the Habsburg dynasty and today's president of Austria. A huge COMPLEX OF REPRESENTATIVE PALACES AND SQUARES.
The place leading from the IMPERIAL PALACE to the GOLDEN QUARTER (business and luxury shopping area) and passing the Graben (with huge plague column) to St. Stephan Cathedral.
Place close to the former roman military base VINDOBONA, later the BABENBERGS (dynasty before the Habsburgs) had their RESIDENCE here. The former Arsenal of the citizens of Vienna (Zeughaus) houses today the central fire brigade.
Centre of the medieval JEWISH COMMUNITY in the Middle Age with museum, underground excavations (synagogue) and HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL.
The HOHE MARKT is where the former roman legion camp VINDOBONA used to be. In the centre you find the VERMÄHLUNGSBRUNNEN (marriage fountain) and the art nouveau ANKERUHR, designed by Franz Matsch.
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
