Hello, my name is Jan, I am licensed Austria Guide and I enjoy to show visitors some of the most attractive historical spots of Vienna! As I believe in „you only see what you know“, let's walk and look together at some beautiful places and talk about their history and their celebrities. The Habsburgs have been key players in Europe for 650 years and this you can still see and feel in Vienna. Small groups, interaction and my enthusiasm is what you can expect. Looking forward to meet you, to show you around and to answer your questions!
Hello!
My name is Jan, I am licensed AUSTRIA GUIDE and after my “classical tour” (-> “Historical spots in Vienna” focusing on the Habsburgs and their residence Hofburg) I would like to guide you through SMALL STREETS, BACKYARDS and PASSAGES in the area of St. Stephen's Cathedral (city center).
Route/Highlights: STEPHANSPLATZ, LUGECK, HEILIGENKREUZERHOF, JESUITE CHURCH, FRANZISKANERPLATZ, BLUTGASSE, HOUSE OF THE TEUTONIC ORDER, STEPHANSPLATZ.
VERY SMALL GROUPS (max. 10 people), time for your questions and my enthusiasm is what you can expect.
Looking forward to meet you (maybe for the second time after my “classical tour”!), to show you around and to answer your questions!
Stephansplatz 6, 1010 Vienna, Austria. I will be waiting for you in front of the entrance to the DOM MUSEUM at Stephansplatz 6, at the opposite side of the main entrance of St. Stephan, where the FIAKER park, at the beginning of Schulerstrasse). You will recognize me by my AUSTRIA GUIDE BADGE and my RED UMBRELLA.
We start and end at the Stephansplatz. There is so much to tell about St. Stephan Cathedral and I will mention only a few highlights and give you some recommendations at the end of this tour.
The LUGECK is dominated by the former REGENSBURGER HOF and the GUTENBERG MEMORIAL in front of it.
An oasis of silence since the 13th century; seat of the Cistercian from Heiligenkreuz in the city of Vienna.
Baroque church of the Jesuits with impressive illusionary painting (trompe-l’oeil) by Andrea Pozzo. Maria Theresia and Franz Stephan commission the "NEW AULA" (today ÖÄW - Austria Academy of Sciences) to replace the old university buildings before the demolition of the city wall makes place for todays Main University at the Ringstrasse.
Small and cozy square in front of the only RENAISSANCE CHURCH (and former monastery) in Vienna. MOSES FOUNTAIN and starting point for a walk through BALLGASSE (all buildings subject to monument protection).
Historical street („Gasse“) and building complexes with picturesque PAWLATSCHENBACKYARDS past of the MOZARTHAUS (Figaro House).
The HOUSE OF THE TEUTONIC ORDER offers a fantastic view of the Tower of St. Stephen. The order with its seat in Vienna since the 13th century has a little private museum and the church is decorated with old armorial bearings of the knights.
We start and end at the Stephansplatz. There is so much to tell about St. Stephan Cathedral and I will mention only a few highlights and give you some recommendations at the end of this tour.
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
