Free Tour Cáceres and its two Jewish quarters
Tour description
The Jewish community in Cáceres was perhaps the most important in Extremadura , as they enjoyed protection thanks to the privileges granted to the city by Alfonso IX of León.
This led to a more than notable Sephardic population in the city.
On this visit we will begin in the Plaza de San Juan and we will cross what was formerly the citadel of the city to reach the Old Jewish Quarter , where we will talk about their customs and the measures that existed in the city's privileges for their protection.
We will also be able to see where the synagogue was located, later converted into a hermitage.
We will leave the walled enclosure to go to the New Jewish Quarter where we will talk about some notable Sephardim of the city and their trades; and we will enter the Palace of La Isla , current headquarters of the city archives and place where the Synagogue was located.
