Rotterdam Historical and Iconic tour
Tour description
Guided tour of Rotterdam's iconic places.
Welcome to the so-called Manhattan of the Meuse! a reinvented city that breaks with the architectural and traditional schemes of the Netherlands.
We start the tour at the stunning Central Station , and I will reveal to you what it points out.
The bombing in 1940 and its devastation pushed the city to completely reorganize itself, so we will pass through Lijbaan, a commercial area from 1953 that was so pioneering that it was imitated in other European cities.
We will continue our tour of Coolsingel where we will visit and discover why buildings such as the Stadhuis (town hall), the Witte Huis , or Saint Laurenskerk were left intact in the war. We will see where Napoleon Bonaparte stayed , you will enjoy the contrasts offered by the surroundings of the Oude Haven ( the old port), we will reach the banks of the Meuse River where we will see the Erasmusbrug, Willemsburg and De Hef bridges and we will talk about the battle against the Nazis that was carried out in one of them.
On our 2.5 hour walk we will also see up close the Witte House, the Cube Houses, Markthall and the foods that the Dutch like the most, sculptures, mosaics, anecdotes... and surely the odd duck!
We finish the walk at the Gothic Church Saint Laurentskerk and the sculpture of the prodigal son of Rotterdam: Desiderius Erasmus.
After this tour you will feel as roterdamers as I do!
