The name Zanzibar refer to the archipelago of island in the Indian Ocean, off the cost of the mainland commonly called Zanzibar and Pemba and other small islands.
After ousting the Portuguese, Oman Arabs ruled over Zanzibar but their influence wasn't really felt until 1804 when sayyid said bin sultan arrived from Oman and fell in love with this lush tropical island.
Stone town, also known as Mji mkongwe, is the old part of Zanzibar City, the main city of Zanzibar, in Tanzania. The newer portion of the city is known as Ng'ambo, Swahili for 'the other side'. Stone Town is located on the western coast of Unguja, the main island of the Zanzibar Archipelago.
