We invite you to discover the perfect combination of nature, history and architectural beauty : Montjuic Mountain.
We suggest a walking tour where you will discover some of its most outstanding places, while we discover its origins, its link with some of the most emblematic buildings in Barcelona, the reason for its name and how it became one of the essential places in the geography of Barcelona.
We will begin the tour in the Mossèn Costa i Llobera Gardens, where we will learn about cactus species from around the world, while enjoying one of the best views from the Monte, walking along the mountain and observing the sea.
We will also have a space for ancient history, passing by the Montjuic Castle, an old fortress from the 18th century, and the remains of the old Jewish cemetery, where we will tell you how the history of this place is intertwined with iconic spaces in the centre of Barcelona.
We will go back to recent history to find the Olympic ring of Montjuic, a set of facilities that were part of the space where the 1992 Olympic Games took place. We will find some of the symbols of this sporting history, which is still alive in the daily lives of its inhabitants.
We will stroll through the Miramar Gardens, one of the main parks created for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition. Among panoramic views of the city, sculptures and fountains that hide legends, you will learn the history of the ambitious architectural project that turned an almost uninhabited mountain into the small city it is today.
We will end the tour in one of the most impressive buildings on the route: Plaza España. In addition to the emblematic Venetian towers, built to serve as the entrance to the International Exhibition, we will visit the National Art Museum of Catalonia, where we will say goodbye hoping to see you again soon in the city.
Some of the places we will pass through:
Important: level of difficulty when climbing the mountain (medium)
