Zagreb Beyond the Guidebooks

Tour does not cover a huge distance but it's incredibly detailed and provides a lot of interesting facts and info. Marina is very passionate.

Due to a travel delay, we only had one day in Zagreb and this tour brought us to nearly everything on my list with some excellent bonuses. Marina was well spoken, personable, and a pleasure to spend the afternoon with. She had great stories, history, and context for the sights. I would take her tour again. Thanks so much Marina!

My wife Dinara and I were delighted with this walking tour led by Marina. Although the weather didn’t help (it rained on and off during almost the entire tour), Marina showed great professionalism, keeping everyone engaged and making sure people interacted with each other. As she says herself, she doesn’t want the tour to be a monologue, but an interactive and enjoyable experience, and she definitely succeeds. The time really flies by during the tour. As she had already seen us on the other tour we took with her the day before, Marina kept answering all our questions, whether they were about history, current events, or topics related (or even unrelated) to the tour. During this tour, we especially enjoyed learning about the history of Zagreb’s Upper Town, the 300-meter underground tunnel, and all the information Marina shared while we were walking through it, as well as the funicular. We also had the chance to meet a lamplighter who still lights the street lamps by hand, keeping this old tradition of public lighting alive. We visited the beautiful St. Mark’s Square and the impressive Zagreb Cathedral, and also learned how the cathedral was affected by the 2020 earthquake. We also learned more about the connection between Mother Teresa and Zagreb, as well as an interesting and touching story from Marina’s family, which helped us better understand life in Yugoslavia and the reality of those times, among many other fascinating things. We would also like to thank Marina for her culinary recommendations: cafés, restaurants, and more. Those we had time to visit were excellent. One more important recommendation: Marina also leads another tour called "Zagreb Green Horseshoe – Lower Town", which we highly recommend.
