Tour description
Pera means ‘the opposite shore’ or ‘beyond’ in Greek. The settlement were part of Byzantium and it settled at XIII. Zone, but in whole its history it is accepted as ‘‘far’. During the Byzantium or Ottoman time either, might be in these days too.
What about ‘Galata’, wasn’t it the name of neighborhood in Genova?
These close districts offers hard to find combination of cultures&time periods&sanctuaries.
It may be the reason why Evliya Çelebi an Ottoman explorer from 15th century who spent 40 years traveling on horseback or İbn Battuta , Petrus Gyllius, Gerard de Nerva, Edmondo de Amicis …so on…. come to Pera.
To realize this city and its people colors, you need to think a ten centuries of accumulation.
