Hello, my name is Geovannis Steve, I have been a guide since 2012. I consider myself a fun and empathetic person. All the time I am full of good humor and I am a lover of what I do. I really enjoy showing and making known the charming city where I live and its nature.
"Discover Baracoa with me"
The oldest city in Cuba, baptized as the first in time, is full of mysteries, legends and even rumors of a curse. Yes like that.
In this tour we will start where the kissed Christopher Columbus first landed , Porto Santo Bay , where the beauty of this is admired by all visitors contrasting its majesty with the mountains. The history of Baracoa begins in this bay.
From here we will move towards the fort, the point that was part of a system of protection against corsairs and pirates where there are still vestiges of this time. The displacement from this first area, the oldest, will take us to what is known today as the historic center of the City.
Already through the historic center we will pass under a sculpture from the Taíno culture, Ataleya , do not you know who it is? It is a very important Goddess for the Taínos.
Here, in this area, we will delve into the different construction styles that are due to the influences of those who settled in the city, mainly Spanish and French.
The visit to the Cathedral will be very important to be able to see more closely the beliefs of many people and to be able to witness the Cruz de la Parra, the original cross that Columbus put up when he first landed in this area as a symbol of Christianity.
Concluding the tour you will arrive at the mysterious part of Baracoa, do not be scared, it is the story of Pelú, a beggar who cursed the city in the 19th century and even today this curse remains.
Finally, we will conclude the tour in the archaeological museum that is in a cave, the perfect place to finish understanding and discovering the reality of Baracoa.
I wait for you!
I will be at Calle Calixto García house #1 in the front with a black cap that says Baracoa4u.
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
