Free tour in Bern: old town, legends and fun facts
Tour description
The 1.75-2 hours in my care are a mixture of general history of the city, exciting legends, fun facts and the discovery of a district and places that you would hardly come into contact with as a tourist. This means that we will not visit tourist hotspots such as the Parliament building, Bärenpark and Zytglogge.
The tour starts at the Rosengarten with a beautiful view of Bern. After a brief introduction, we head down the slope towards the Matte district.
There you will learn, among other things, why Bern was important for the production of chocolate, why the inhabitants of the Matte district spoke their own language and which famous womaniser was pampered by the maids in the Badgasse.
After that, your physical condition will be slightly challenged, because you'll have to climb the 183 steps to the Münster platform. If this is not possible or you are not in the mood, you can take the elevator (CHF 1.50/ride). In the last section of the tour, I will talk about the depiction of the Last Judgment at the Münster. Furhtermore, I'll show you two objects of art in public space, which you would hardly notice as a tourist.
After the tour, you will have walked 2.4 km and expanded your knowledge. You will also receive hints and suggestions for your further stay in my beautiful hometown.
