Walkative was established in 2007 by a group of young enthusiasts who also happened to be licensed tour guides. Today, we operate in 20 cities in countries across all of Europe and beyond, including France, Germany, Poland, Italy, Ukraine and Israel. We have already guided more than 3 million tourists, with more than 350 000 in 2023 only! Despite this growth, we stay true to our values: be local and present the history of our cities in a professional, yet entertaining way, accessible for everybody, regardless their budget. We provide service not only in big, well established places like Berlin, Paris or Krakow, but also smaller, less known, yet no less fascinating locations, like Nice, Toruń or Lublin. We cooperate with highly trained, professional guides providing both engaging tip-based and regular fixed-price tours. And most importantly - we know our cities by heart! Join us and stay Walkative!

Tour description

Sopot is the smallest of the towns constituting Polish Tricity (Trójmiasto). On one side it neighbours historic Gdańsk, on the other industrial Gdynia. So what is its role in this organism? Very simple, yet very important - Sopot is the nightlife centre of the Tricity! Once it was mainly a spa town, full of 19th century mansions, palaces, and cafes where the intellectual and cultural elite of the country spent their vacations. Today, the old style mixes with modernity and kitsch of the 90's, and Sopot, and in particular the so-called Monciak, or Bohaterów Monte Cassino Street is a place where you can meet the stars of Polish culture, the cream of society, and the richest Poles flaunting their wealth. This 600 metre long promenade is full of sophisticated restaurants and modern clubs, next to which you can still find the old intellectual cafes and pubs. It all ends with what is most important in Sopot - the longest wooden pier in the world. But Sopot is not only about glamour, parties, and fun. It is also has beautiful architecture and a large dose of history. In the Sopot Grand Hotel Adolf Hitler stayed before the war and after the war, the French President Charles de Gaulle spent his time. Who knows, maybe they stayed in the same room?

During our tour we will see Monciak with its most famous buildings - both old and new, like the symbol of the postmodernist craziness - the Crooked House (Krzywy Domek). We will check what you can find when you turn into one of the side streets, we will walk among the beautiful palaces and villas to find out why the prices of apartments in Sopot are the highest in Poland. We will also see the most famous Polish bear - Corporal Wojtek! You will hear scandalous stories of artists partying in SPATiF and also about local wars between the city and the church over... a public toilet. We will naturally show you the best place to go for a drink. We can’t miss that, after all, Sopot is the most party city on the Polish coast!

During the tour we will see:

  • Monciak
  • Krzywy Domek (Crooked House)
  • SPATiF (club of the Association of Polish Artists of Theatre and Film and the Association of Polish Visual Artists)
  • The fountain of Johnny the Fisherman
  • The Monument to Wojtek the Bear
  • Grand Hotel
  • Sopot pier
  • and much more!
