Free Historical Cultural Tour to Linares.
Tour description
This Free Historical Cultural Tour through the city of Linares will take you into a place with a lot of history. We will tell you about the first settlers of the city, through the History of Cástulo (Iberian settlement or archaeological site located 6 km from Linares). Where Iberians, Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths, Arabs and Christians settled. Until the Christians moved to Linares in the 15th century, because Linares was a mining town, the journey from Cástulo to Linares (6 km there and 6 km back) was saved in material and human transport.
Then we will talk about the mining heyday of the Linares mines, which was from 1850 to 1930, why those mines were closed, what motivated that closure, the rise and fall of Linares due to the minerals that were extracted in those mines, which were lead, silver and copper.
I will also tell you that since a lot of money moved through Linares because of the mines it had, I will tell you that the second Bank of Spain was located in Linares, the first Banesto in Spain here in Linares. Because of the money that moved, there were a lot of foreigners in this city. Linares had 7 foreign vice-consulates, 5 train stations and a tram station. There is even an English cemetery.
You can visit two museums for free (whenever it is open): the Mining Interpretation Centre (for the mines that Linares had) and the Archaeological Museum of Linares (for the archaeological site or Iberian settlement that exists in Linares).
I would also like to tell you the story of the most important buildings that existed in Linares, such as the famous bullring where the famous bullfighter Manolete died; I will also tell you about the Hospital de los Marqueses de Linares (what it is, who owned it, what function it had and has, etc.) And so on.
You will not regret visiting this wonderful city that has a lot of history and much to tell.
