The most impressive corners of Prague's Old Town
Tour description
A walk through the corners of the old town
I cordially invite you to take a stroll around the corners and most important sights of Prague's Old Town.
We will start our walk at the meeting point ( Palach Square ) in front of the entrance to the Prague Philharmonic Hall so-called Rudolfinum . After getting acquainted with the surrounding buildings, we will head straight into the heart of the former Jewish town, later known as Josefov . Here we will learn briefly about the history of the Jewish population and the preserved monuments of Jewish architecture. Three steps from the Jewish Town is the oldest market square in Prague ( so-called Old Town Square ), known among Czechs as Staromak . The entrance gate to the market is the beautiful St. Nicholas Baroque Church . In the square itself I will show you the main sights, such as the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary before Týn , the Marian Column . I will mention the famous Czech preacher Jan Hus and then we will continue to the oldest part of the Old Town to the so-called Týn also known as Ungelt . I will introduce you to the history of this oldest part of the Old Town and we will take a look at its architecture. Our walk continues to the nearby St. James's Church with the Minorite Monastery . We'll also look at the neighboring Menhart Palace and reach the famous Royal Route ( Celetna Street ). You'll learn what the Old Town walls looked like in ancient times. We continue our walk to the Fruit Market , where two magnificent buildings stand: the Carolinum —the seat of the famous Charles University—and the Nostice Theater . Here you'll learn about the history of the oldest university in Central Europe and the oldest stone theater in Prague. From there, we'll delve into the abysses of the so-called Prague Passages, formerly dark alleys that form a dense labyrinth of passages between the main streets of the Old Town. Via Melantrichova Street, we'll reach the Old Town Hall , one of the Old Town's greatest attractions. Beneath the Town Hall, I won't fail to tell the story of one of the most famous clocks in Europe ( the Orloj ). This is also where we'll end our walk.
I reserve the right to change the route due to the intensity of tourist traffic, the weather and possibly the mood of the guru or the walkers ;-).
