Free walking tour of the Makola Market in Accra
Tour description
Experience a memorable walking tour of the Makola Market that stood at the heart of the urban city.
The market is the main wholesale and retail marketplace in Accra, the epicenter of trade in Ghana. See the various commodities of the market ranging from fresh vegetables to textiles. It offers a variety of products both local and exotic which some of you would want to see and buy.
This market is the largest in Accra, is close to some tourist sites such as Jamestown fishing village, The National Theatre, Kwame Nkrumah Museum, and the Independence Square. It also offers a good old architectural structure and this is where both, new and second hand used clothing are bought before people buy the on their boutiques and shops. It might be a local market but trading activities here feel exciting seeing the crowd moving in all directions with each one trying to find what he or she came to buy.
We will start from Tudu, a line of old story buildings where brand-new clothes are wholesales, visit Kantamanto where imported second hand clothing are sold at wholesale and retail. We will enter Okaishie where the women vendors stand on the busy streets to sell their products. Continue to the African fabric and textiles shops.
We will finish at Rawlings Park, a well-maintained car park for both traders and visitors to the market.
