Free Tour MODERN BILBAO - From the Ensanche to the Guggenheim (*)
Tour description
(*)(**) Discover with us the two great transformations of Bilbao: one that everyone talks about and another that few know about.
A walk through the Bilbao of some of its architectural landmarks of yesterday and today.
Brief description of the tour:
A walk through the Bilbao of three centuries: XIX, XX and XXI. A mosaic of modern and contemporary architecture like few others in Europe.
In 1876, involved in an unprecedented development caused by the industrial boom, Bilbao approved the project of what we now popularly know as the Ensanche. Dozens of architects, mostly Basque, but influenced by the international trends of the time, and under the motto "act local, think global", gave shape to one of the most elegant urban fabrics in Europe.
More than a century later, the inauguration of the Guggenheim Museum and its overwhelming impact placed Bilbao at the world center of contemporary architecture and unleashed the construction of dozens of projects and infrastructures designed by some of the best architects of our era.
