Our tour begins in the famous Puerta del Sol, under the watchful eye of the well-known Bear and the Strawberry Tree and the beautiful Mariblanca. There we will learn the history of this lively Madrid square, kilometer 0 of all the radial roads in Spain. Ready to start?
We will continue advancing along Calle Mayor, an old road converted into the main thoroughfare of the city, which for centuries has seen people, goods and secrets pass by in front of its facades. We will show you the Posada del Peine (the oldest hotel in Spain) until we reach the Plaza Mayor , a place where bullfights, plays, processions or trials have been held. We will reveal to you where the caves and underground galleries hidden under the current plaza are located!
Continuing towards the San Ginés Passage, you will enter one of the most magical corners of Madrid. Next to it is the beloved Parish of San Ginés, with a mystical atmosphere that keeps numerous relics and legends inside.
Going down Arenal Street we will approach the very heart of old Madrid, and we will show you the Royal Theater, the stately Plaza de Oriente, the impressive Royal Palace and the imposing Almudena Cathedral. You can't leave the city without visiting the interior of 3 musts ! We will inform you of prices and schedules during the route.
We return to Calle Mayor, where each corner seems to tell a new story. There you can see the Sefarad Center, where the traces of the Jewish community in Madrid are shown.
Finally we will arrive at the Plaza de la Villa, with the Torre de los Lujanes or the Casa Cisneros, it is an enclave of power and conspiracies. Each building has its own tales of political intrigue and dark secrets. We recommend that you be prepared to take dozens of photos in this beautiful corner of Madrid.
We will pass by the bustling San Miguel Market, which among its aromas and flavors also hides stories of meetings between famous people and secret deals for centuries.
During the tour we will be able to visit the old Reina Madre Pharmacy (the oldest business in the city) and the Casa Botín (the oldest restaurant in the world), where we will end our route.
