"Hey, wa going on?" (Hey, what's up?). My name is Joshua, tour guide in the British Virgin Islands. Nice to meet you. I am a shore excursionist and tour guide at Island Shipping Trading. Working in tourism is my dream and fits best with my persona. These beautiful islands were rediscovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493. He gave them the name 'Las Virgenes' which translates to mean The Virgins. He gave it such a name because he compared it to St. Ursula and her eleven thousand virgins, our patriot here in the VI. The Virgin Islands is made up of over 60 island, islets and cays. With so many different islands, pirates set sail to paradise. Famous pirates', Edward Thatch also known as Blackbeard and Jost Van Dyke sailed through these waters inhabiting these islands. To do this date there are still remains of sugar mills and copper mines. Outside of being a tour guide I am a farmer who loves nature, sports and music.

Tour description

Post the Abolition Act in 1833, the African population adapted to the new lifestyle taking the Virgin Islands as their home. The street was nicknamed 'Old Road' because of it's dirt road look. At nights lanterns would be hung on poles to give the street light. It was not advisable to roam the streets after dark. Most of our history lie along the streets of Main Street. We will be re-visiting the lives, hard work and accomplishments of our noble ancestors that made Virgin Islands into the place that it is today.
