The Silk Road in Valencia
Tour description
Discover why the city of Valencia has been a reference in the historic Silk Road. The "Silk Road" was a network of trade routes organized from the Chinese silk business since the s. II a. C, which spread throughout the Asian continent and took hold in the s. XV in the Hispanic kingdoms and the western Mediterranean. Even today, this route is perceived in the Velluters neighborhood (now El Pilar) and in buildings such as La Lonja de la Seda and in Colegio de Arte Mayor de la Seda. It is also perceived in the best Valencian traditions, such as the impressive dresses of the Falleras and the costumes of the Falleros. The importance of Valencia on the Silk Road has been recognized by UNESCO. In 2016, the II World Encounter "Valencia, Silk City 2016" was held to disseminate the cultural and natural heritage, and art on the silk road and with it the idea of sustainable tourism.
