We'd been to Venice a couple of times before, so taking a tour which purposefully avoided the major tourist highlights in favour of the "hidden gems" sounded like a good idea. Unfortunately, I don't think it quite hit the mark. It was fine, our guide was knowledgeable, but I don't think we were shown enough of what would fall into the category of "hidden gems". Instead it seemed more like an "Introduction to Venice" tour but in a more boring part of town, with a guide who did not really let his personality shine.

Free walking tours are an ideal way to introduce yourself to a new city, and Zagreb is no exception. The guides are usually entertaining, often with a touch of the showman (or woman) - and our guide, Darko, excelled in this department, flamboyantly imparting his knowledge through cajoling, bargaining with, or where necessary bulldozing his students into not only learning about Croatian history, politics, culture, education - but more importantly, how to drink coffee and how to pronounce “fjaka” - the art of doing nothing; all against the backdrop of Zagrebs most prominant landmarks. We loved it.

We were only in Zadar for half a day and this was the ideal way to get a feel for the old town. Our guide Iva, was friendly, informative and entertaining, with a dry sense of humour. It was easy to book and Highly Recommended
