Hello, my name is Diego, and I was born in the beautiful city of Santiago de Guatemala (Antigua Guatemala). I've been working as a freelance guide for almost 15 years. I'm currently 35 years old. I'm an accredited guide from the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT), and my area of work is the entire Republic of Guatemala. I currently live in Ciudad Vieja (the first capital city that Guatemala ever had), which is only 6 kilometers from Antigua Guatemala, so I give tours there all the time. I know a little bit about everything: volcanology, sacred art, general history of Guatemala, architecture, biodiversity, speleology, etc. I'm passionate about what I do, and it will be a pleasure to guide you through this museum-city, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Our work as guides allows us to teach travelers about traditions, culture, legends, gastronomy, etc., which requires constant training and paying for credential renewals. We did a walking tour of Antigua with Diego and cannot recommend him enough. He is a brilliant guide and also a lovely person - his English is excellent and he also helped us with our Spanish pronunciation! Diego listened to our interests and tailored the tour to show us what he thought we would like. He was very knowledgable about the city and the cultural history - we learnt so much and saw things we wouldn’t have done if we hadn’t done his tour. We felt like we had experienced the authentic Antigua. 10/10 experience - thank you!
