Ryo - Tour Guide in Tokyo

Konnichiwa ! I'm Ryo, your local guide. I was born and raised in Tokyo. I graduated from Shinjuku Public High School, a 5-minute walk from Shinjuku Station and then went to Waseda University, which is about a 30-minute walk from the same station. I used to live in Kabukicho town and worked for a movie production company located in the Shinjuku Nichome gay town. I have first-hand experience going to many of the establishments which we will discuss during the tour.

Currently, I work as a cram school English teacher during the day, teaching both high school students and recent graduates.

We had an amazing tour around Shinjuku with Ryo! It was such an interesting, off-the-beaten-path experience, showing us places we’d never have found on our own. You can really tell how much effort, knowledge, and passion he puts into every detail of the tour, from the stories he shares to the hidden spots he chooses. A note for future participants: This is a red-light district tour, so some content can be quite explicit, but Ryo is very respectful and made it clear from the start that if anything felt too much, he could tone it down. We appreciated that flexibility and professionalism. We absolutely loved the experience and highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for something special and eye-opening in Tokyo. Thank you so much for making our time in Shinjuku unforgettable!

Tim-san,! Thank you very much for your kind review! Since you and your wife have joined many guided tours before, I assumed that you were both very experienced in enjoying this kind of walking tour. I especially appreciated how your wife was such a great listener—nodding, smiling, and asking many thoughtful questions. Her questions showed a genuine interest in the district, which encouraged me to go deeper into the stories and details. I truly enjoyed walking with you both that evening. Arigato gozaimasu

Very interesting information about the host clubs, soap places, and maid bars and how it all works. You get all the information you would want about why people get into the business, how much they make, and how they make it. Saw many love hotels as well and even went into the lobby of one to see what rooms were on the menu. Ryo was very informative and knows his stuff since he’s a local. Tour normally lasts 2 hours but ours lasted 2 hours 40 minutes since we had so many questions.

Nora-san,Thank you for your review! Like I said, Americans are the best people when it comes to getting to know strangers and making small talk. Just a few minutes after the tour started, all of us were talking and enjoying getting to know one another. That night, you were more like a moderator or facilitator. Whenever I didn’t convey something clearly, you jumped in with follow-up questions so that everyone could understand. I really think a good tour needs two-way communication—the more participants join the conversation, the better the tour becomes. You brought so much thought and energy to the tour, and that made it exciting for me—and probably for the other participants as well. Since you all talked so much, at times I even felt like you and the other three were taking over the tour! But that actually gave me a wonderful feeling because it felt like I was experiencing the tour with you, not just leading it. Also, thank you for the feedback and advice you gave me at the end. I’ll definitely try to incorporate some of your suggestions. One small correction: the tour is supposed to last about 2.5 hours, and that night it actually lasted three hours and ten minutes. 😊 Arigato Gozaimashita.

I really liked the tour! Ryo speaks great English. It was amazing to walk through Shinjuku with a local. Be aware that the first 30-60 minutes can be pretty detailed about intercourse. It is a red light tour after all and Ryo will not shy way from going into details. He is cool and I did not feel uncomfortable at any moment. I felt his openness to be fitting to the tour and not inappropriate at any time. Other people left the tour early however as they weren't comfortable with the topic. The tour then continued with amazing history. Ryo showed pictures on his tablet to undermine his story. We visited a shrine too. Overall, a really awesome experience. Only book it if you are somewhat comfortable around the topic. But if you are even a little, absolutely book a tour with Ryo. It'll be a memorable tour. You'll learn some history. Walk some lanes of Shinjuku you'd never have walked. And have an amazing cultural exchange with a true Tokyo local. Arigato, Ryo-san. I enjoyed my evening and will remember it!

Thank you for your kind review! As I said during the tour, you truly saved me that night. It was an unusual and shocking night — three out of four participants dropped out just 20 minutes into the tour, saying it was "too graphic." I’ve been doing this tour for about ten months now, and that had never happened before. It was both surprising and disappointing. But Lucas san, you stayed until the end and offered your thoughtful interpretation of what had just happened, which helped me process in my brain. This is a "Red Light District Tour," which means it’s not a "generic" tour — it’s specialized. It’s not for everyone. However, sometimes people join without reading the description carefully, and later realize that the content doesn’t match their expectations. That seems to have been the case that night. I also really liked your prediction: “This kind of thing will happen again.” I guess you’re right — I’ll need to get used to it, or be mentally prepared when it does. Since that night, I’ve been thinking. I’ve decided to be a bit more mindful of the words. I’ll still explain things in about the same level of detail, but I’ll try to choose more polite language, so the content doesn’t sound too graphic. Again, thank you so much for staying with me. If you had left with those three, I would have been completely crushed. You really lifted my spirits and helped me recover. I’m 100% sure I’ll remember you and that night for the rest of my life. There’s a saying: “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” They may have walked away from the tour, but you saw value in it — and that means the world to me. Three days have passed since then, and today is Sunday. I have another tour tonight in 2 hours from now, and thanks to your support and advice, I think I can go strong and face whatever comes along the way.
