The tour was not at all what was advertised. We barely touched on the war and Nazism in Hungary. Instead the guide spent more time discussing his grievances about the communism era, which is fine if you want to make a tour about that, but not what was advertised. We were looking forward to learning more about the process of the Holocaust and how Nazis operated in the city, or how the war affected the city, but we received little actual information about that. The guide Andrew was a nice guy but would sometimes get lost in his explanations by jumping from one point to the next in history with no clear connection between them. Do not take this tour if you are looking for an “historical” tour with information about the war. But it does provide an overview of the Jewish quarter today and architectural details which are interesting. Additionally, you need phone data/an internet connection on your phone to follow the tour as the guide asks you to use their website to look at photographs.
Was presently surprised by Kata’s tour. I’ve done multiple free tours before in over 6 countries and this is by far one of the best I’ve had the pleasure to follow. She gave us so much information in 3 hours while staying enthusiastic, smiling and fun to listen to. A good mix of historical info and fun facts about the Buda castle area. This is a must tour if you visit Budapest.
