I attended this food tour hoping to learn about the cultural and historical context behind the food, but unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. The guide provided very little information about the food itself. There was minimal explanation of the history, origins, or cultural significance of what we were eating. I found myself having to ask repeated probing questions just to get basic context—for example, why arepas in Cartagena are different from arepas in Medellín. A food tour should proactively offer this kind of insight, not require participants to pull information out of the guide. Additionally, the guide appeared more focused on flirting with one of the women on the tour than on engaging the group or doing his job as an educator. At times, it felt like we were simply being walked from restaurant to restaurant without meaningful explanation or storytelling relevant to the historyof food. Most concerning, however, was that the guide made two separate “jokes” about physically beating me!!! Regardless of intent, comments like this are completely inappropriate. As a solo Black female traveler, these remarks made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe. Humor involving violence—especially directed at a participant—is unacceptable in any setting, let alone a guided tour. Because of the lack of informative content and the inappropriate, unsafe comments, I would not recommend this tour—particularly to Black women or solo travelers.

Fabio was an excellent tour guide; he knows the history of Cartagena very well, is friendly and cordial, and interacts with people, making the tour enjoyable and fun. I highly recommend the tour with Fabio!
