The main concept of the free walking tour is “pay-what-you-want”, meaning there are no set prices. However, at the very beginning, our guide announced a minimum amount to pay. “You don’t have to, but at least pay the minimum,” - and the minimum was 500k per person. I’ve done many free walking tours in different countries, and this was the first time a guide essentially stated the price he expected to receive. I understand that guides may have fees to pay per participant, and I think it’s fair to explain this upfront. Still, beyond covering such costs, I would prefer to make my own decision about the final amount based on the experience I actually receive. Regarding our guide, Joseph: after reading many positive reviews about him, I specifically chose this tour and even double-checked with the operator that he would be the guide at that time. During the tour, it turned out that Joseph normally does not guide groups at this hour and agreed to do so only because of my request. He reminded the group of this fact around five times during the tour, which created a sense of additional pressure. Joseph is clearly experienced and puts in effort, but I personally found his speech and pronunciation quite difficult to understand, which made it hard to follow the tour. I wasn’t the only participant who struggled with this. He is very expressive, perhaps even too much at times - the pace felt rushed, making it less comfortable to listen. I also didn’t find the storytelling very smooth and often felt confused rather than engaged. In the end, the announced “minimum” turned out to be my maximum. If I hadn’t felt pressured, I would have paid less for the tour.
Joseph was kind from the beginning and took well care off all thé group. He brought us to a secret bunker, gave us recomendations fo différent restaurants and knew a lot off history. Thought we went to two diferent christian cherches. With one would have been enoght. And he was willing to see thé bishop which I don't think was something interesting fo the tour. And on m'y opinion the tour is too long. I prefer a two hour tour.
Great tour with our guide, Long. Excellent English, pictures supplemental visual materials, very knowledgeable, good pace with breaks, interesting and engaging. One of the best walking tours we’ve done. Highly recommended!!
