We joined this free walking tour with high expectations, but the overall experience was mixed. Our guide shared several personal stories and even took us along part of his usual morning routine. We stopped at a café where he encouraged us to try certain items, which we eventually paid for, and he also made a couple of personal stops to buy water and a newspaper. While some moments felt intimate and gave us insight into his life, the approach came across as rather unprofessional. The tour itself covered only a short distance and included just a few points of interest. The guide also insisted on taking photos of us, which felt unnecessary. At the beginning, he mentioned that we would be the only two participants. I expressed some discomfort about this, and although he reassured us it would be fine, it still felt a bit awkward. At the end of the tour, we offered a tip that reflected our budget and the quality of the experience. However, the guide insisted that it was not enough because he needed to pay GuruWalk. Even after my husband explained several times that we couldn’t give more, he continued to pressure us, holding out his hand and repeating the same message. Only once he received an amount he found acceptable did he let the situation end. This final interaction was very unpleasant and overshadowed an already average tour. I hope this feedback helps improve future experiences for other travelers.

Our tour guide Han took time to answer everyone’s questions and is very thoughtful and complete with his answers. He provides very entertaining and detailed narratives about the history, geography, demographics and current government. I learned a great deal from him.
It was a great walk and you can definitely feel that David is passionate about his job. All the little jokes and things made the tour really enjoyable for us and perfect to start our time in KL with. 10/10 recommend if you’re interested in learning more about the culture.
