Mary - Stadtführer in Berlin

This tour is not the usual kind of tour, as you can already read in the description, and that is exactly what we loved about it. Mary has a very deep understanding of the topics she presents and goes one step further in her storytelling. Her tour feels like a full immersion into history. She invites you to “wear different glasses,” look at events from different perspectives, and really think about what happened. You listen to her explanations and discussions, and when the tour ends, you continue reflecting on everything you heard. For us, that is what a great tour should do: not only show places, but also make you think and see history in a new way. And you know what is the best? Mary bring her own story to the tour and make you touch real problems and moments history had. Really good tour!

We had the absolute pleasure of being taken around some sights in Berlin by Mary. Her passion for history is truly inspiring. Her knowledge is incredible, and she shared the complex history of the city with such honesty, depth and sensitivity. What made the tour so special was how personal and meaningful she made it. You can really feel how important the history is to her, and that passion made every stop so much more powerful and memorable. She explained difficult parts of the past with great care while still keeping the tour engaging and informative. We came away with a far deeper understanding of Berlin and its history than we ever expected. It is a very moving and educational tour. She even had a back pack of cushions that she carried around in case anyone wanted one when having a seat. She told us how long each section of the walk would be in advance and welcomed questions and discussion. Thank you for such a thoughtful, insightful and unforgettable experience. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Berlin.

First of all, please read the description of the tour carefully. Mary prefers to keep her tours limited to a small number of people in order to create better interaction with everyone. If you join the tour without reading the description and then decide to leave, it may take a spot from someone else who actually wanted to participate. This tour also includes a significant lecture component covering doctrines, ideologies, philosophy, and history... If these topics are not interesting to you, this might not be the right tour for you. Of course, it also includes sightseeing, important information about the places we visit, and very interesting anecdotes—some even witnessed by Mary herself. At the same time, Mary has a great sense of humor, which makes parts of the tour quite fun as well. I really enjoyed this tour and highly recommend it to understand the history beyond of that until today politics to have a new vision as added very important visions for myself and i learned a lot new and very important informations. Thank you Mary again for this very important tour.

I was really looking forward to seeing Berlin, but I left this tour feeling a bit overwhelmed and slightly frustrated. Our guide seemed determined to turn every single street corner into a political science lecture or a deep dive into the 1940s. I fully understand that Berlin has a heavy history, and it would be wrong to ignore it entirely. However, I signed up for a *walking tour* to see the *city*. Instead of describing the architecture of the Brandenburg Gate or the aesthetic of the buildings along the way, we spent 20 minutes on current government policy. When we finally stopped at Checkpoint Charlie, I wanted to look at the site and imagine what it was like, but we were just given a long monologue about Cold War politics. What I really wanted was an introduction to the locations themselves—why they look the way they do, the stories of the people who built them, or even just some fun facts about the scenery. Instead, it felt like a mobile history lecture. If you are a hardcore history buff who wants to debate 20th-century politics, this might be for you. But if you want to actually see Berlin and learn about the city as a place (rather than just a timeline of events), I’d recommend looking for a different tour that focuses more on the location and scenery rather than the politics.

Antwort von Mary:
Hi Bella, I will need to report this review for the office’s evaluation - I believe you mistakenly left an opinion for a different walk than you participated in. My tour isn’t advertised in any way as sightseeing and isn’t focused on architecture - history and politics are its main subjects. It’s all detailed in my description, pre-tour message your received, and during the introduction. I believe there was a mistake because you departed from my tour early, long before the Checkpoint Charlie, and your description misrepresents how this stop looks like on my walk. Maybe you confused it with something from some other guide, who you visited that place with? The same goes for the Brandenburg Gate - we talked about its architecture, it’s the last stop of my tour. You were then long gone and not there with us Please remove the review as soon as possible, it hugely hurts my future income and my tour’s reputation, and makes my job much more difficult. Have a good day. Mary

She connected history and their sites with current world affairs which I found very enriching. It gave the history tangability and showed that we are living the history of tomorrow.
