Budapest is a beautiful city and an ideal tourist destination. One of the most popular tourist attractions in Budapest is the Buda Castle. Built on the hill above the Danube, it dominates the Pest side of the city.
Visitors can explore the castle's luxurious rooms and enjoy its rich cultural heritage of Hungary's past rulers, including Hungarian kings and queens, Turkish sultans and Habsburg emperors.
But it is not only the Castle that is a tourist attraction, as being part of the Pest side you can imagine how much there is to discover. That's why we recommend the professional guidance of a Free Tour like the ones we offer at GuruWalk.
The best way to access the Buda Castle is through the Vienna Gate. It was built in the 18th century by Maria Theresa and used to be a formal entrance to the castle. Its name comes from its proximity to the Austrian capital of Vienna.
Today it is also an exhibition hall at Buda Castle.
This exhibition has a large capacity to host different events. You can find everything from concerts, lectures and exhibitions here. The place has beautiful architectural features that attract visitors from all over the world.
Already within the Buda Castle quarter, the National Archives and the Church of Mary Magdalene are two of the buildings with the most architectural presence.
The National Archives in Budapest's Buda Castle is a monument to Hungarian culture, as well as the most important historical building in the country. It also houses some of Hungary's oldest and most priceless artefacts. This monument, which was built in 1847 by architect Mihály Pollack, has witnessed enormous changes throughout its long life.
The Church of Mary Magdalene was originally built on this site in 1785. It was built by architect Antal Zetes to be a smaller copy of another church he completed four years earlier.
For over two hundred years, the church served as a place for religious ceremonies and masses. It even served as a storehouse for books during World War II when it was bombed and rendered uninhabitable.
Another important church in Buda Castle is the Matthias Church.
The Matthias Church is one of the most iconic buildings in Budapest. The church was built by the king of Hungary, King Matthias I, during the 14th century.
The church is named after St Matthias because of its importance in Christian history. The building was badly damaged during World War II and underwent extensive renovation after the war. It is now one of the most visited buildings in Budapest.
Last but not least, the views from the Fisherman's Bastion.
The Fisherman's Bastion is considered one of the most beautiful attractions in Budapest, and all tourists should visit it as soon as possible. The bastion is a medieval building that was used by fishermen to protect themselves from the river where they worked fishing.
