Bucharest Food Tour

Andreea was a great guide with an incredible knowledge of Romanian history. We had a lot of tasty treats and walked away with tons of food recommendations. Above and beyond our expectations, I would recommend it to anyone who wants an introduction to Bucharest!

I’ve always loved free walking tours — where people don’t try to sell you anything, but share their city with love. And as someone who also works with people, I can’t pass by such beautiful examples of genuine human connection. And that’s exactly what we found with Andreea @matees_andreea — young, humble, and full of that inner light that makes you feel instantly warm. She led our food tour through Bucharest’s historic center, but it wasn’t just a tour — it was a little adventure, filled with the aroma of coffee, freshly baked bread, and stories told straight from the heart by a true professional. We wandered through the city center and old town, listening to stories about monarchy, communism, people, and the flavors that have survived across eras. How often do you have a tour guide with several university degrees, including a masters in Eastern European history giving you a “free “tour of an amazing capital city? Andreea was fantastic! I have participated in dozens of this type of Tour and she is among the very best. I would highly recommend one of her many styles of tours.

Not only did she take us to some fantastic local spots with delicious recommendations, but she also brought the city’s history to life in such an engaging way. Andrea has a Master’s degree in Romanian history, and it shows—her knowledge and passion for the city gave so much depth and context to everything we saw and tasted.

We joined a free tour with Andrea, and it was absolutely fantastic! She gave us a fascinating insight into traditional Romanian cuisine, explaining the origins of each dish with plenty of historical context. Her storytelling made history come alive, and her passion for her country’s culture was truly inspiring. We learned so much and tasted our way through Romania’s heritage at the same time. 100% recommended!

History made fun + social interaction + great local drinks. What's not to like? I had a marvelous time on this tour, as it is a social experience that seemed aimed not only to introducing us to the history and drinking spots of the city, but as well aimed at helping travellers make new friends. I would love to go again, next time I'll find myself in Bucharest

A lovely way to explore Bucharest and it's local food. This tour was a good mix of history and local snacks. Highly recommend doing it on your first morning in Bucharest, as the city feels like it's coming alive once you understand its history and people. As well, perhaps consider coming to the tour hungry, as there are plenty of delicious pastries to try along the way.

Great intro to Bucharest and it's history, and a great way to make new friends in a new city. Andrei was very warm and welcoming, and made us feel like we were all old friends. I loved the stops and the recommendations that I got from him. Great tour, great company. I would definitely go again.

I absolutely loved the tour. Andrei was a very good storyteller and all of the information was well structured. As well, the food stops were surprising, as dome of them are not places I would've thought to stop by myself. I highly recommend this tour, and I advise coming to the tour hungry.

Mal eine andere Art der Stadtführung. Uns hat es sehr gut gefallen, wir haben einen guten Überblick über die Entwicklung Bukarests und Rumäniens erhalten. Super englisch. Andrei war sehr nett, spontan und natürlich. Wir hätten die Tour direkt am ersten Tag machen sollen, zur besseren Orientierung an den folgenden Tagen.

The tour was very complete, with many historical details. He is a very nice person who makes the time fly and you take some learning with you. And the places he took us to are very local, so much so that I hadn't noticed them in the centre after 3 days walking around. Thanks for the tour.

You must take this tour, you will know the history and drink in differents bars. The best walking tour I have taken so far.
