Il meglio di Fes in sole 3 ore.

We had such a great day with Abdul! He is the best guide we had during our 2 weeks stay in all Morocco!! He took more of 3 hours of his time to guide us through the chaotic medina of Fes and most of it‘s scenic sights. As he is a local, he knows basically everything about the city and all of the small details you would otherwise miss on a solo tour. As we were very interested in the mausoleum of Moulay Idris II but could not enter, he even went inside with our phone to film the whole beautiful interior so we could catch a glimpse. He also knows a lots of people close by, so we met a lot of his friends and especially the painters are excelling at their craft! Thanks Abdul for the great time! Best wishes to you and your family!

Mohammed was a nice guy and the tour was nice, but here are some considerations: Pro: - Mohammed is very friendly and local (obviously) and knows every corner of the Medina. You do need a guide since it is really very easy to get lost in Fes (we wouldn’t believe it either, also google is simply not working in the narrow streets) - ⁠the tour was nice and we stopped at most of the major attractions you would want to visit when in Fes and Mohammed gave us some information about each stop. - ⁠the group size was perfect (we were 5) to go through the Medina. We saw other groups of up to 20 people, no idea how that is supposed to work Cons: - if you are looking for the „old spirit“ of a free walking tour (meaning to get to less touristy and unknown places) then this is not right for you. It was a nice tour but comparable to any other tourist tour, except for the price. - ⁠Although Mohammed gave us some info on each stop I would have expected more. For example we stopped at the (oldest) university in the world, he said some words and then pointed at a plate on the wall where we could read about the history of the place. The problem was, the text was in French and we were an English group. I do expect from a guide to explain that to me and not refer to a writing on the wall. - ⁠we stopped at several „collectives“ (herbs, textiles) to see how it is produced. Although the people there were incredibly nice, it felt like we were pushed into an exhibition to buy stuff (which you don’t have to of course). The same goes for the famous tannery. We had the feeling that we should only spend little time on the roof top from where you see the tanning, but more importantly we should then go to the shop floor…I have to mention that this had nothing to do with Mohammed but seems to be the normal practice. - ⁠finally and the end of the tour he said that now we will have lunch and brought us to a restaurant. Quite confused we decided to eat a bit (it surly had a nice terrace with view) but again we felt we are pushed to a place what had nothing to do with the tour. From a guide I would expect recommendations if asked for but not to go directly to a spot for whatever reasons. To sum it up, would I recommend the tour with Mohammed? Yes, I would since he is friendly and knows the city, just be prepared that it is „simply“ a city tour.
