EXCLUSIVE BOSPHORUS VIEWS AT RUMELI

Duration: 2h

Hi! My name is Şahika. A native Istanbul-er (I hate İstanbulite) I spent several years living in other diverse and fast-paced cities including Houston, Boston and London. I think I can give you a unique perspective of Istanbul comparing it to other metropolis and ultimately showcase how it is like no other city in the world. I am an avid traveler myself and I deeply treasure the spontaneous connections created on the road; purely out of shared curiosity and an unspoken agreement to share a moment together. I will be striving to create this convivial atmosphere on my own tours.

Tour description

EXCLUSIVE BOSPHORUS VIEWS:

Boğaziçi University Campus filled with nature and history

THE FIRST AMERICAN COLLEGE FOUNDED OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES

Bogazici (Bosphorus) University is the highest ranking research institution of Turkiye which accepts 0.5% of NEARLY 3 MILLION students who take the university entrance exam annually.

The university was founded in 1863 next to the Rumeli Fortress. It boasts some of the best views of the entire city in a vast green campus with Neo-Grec style class buildings.

We'll dive into the vibrant atmosphere of the South Campus and view the Bosphorus strait from very unique angles at its narrowest point between the Rumeli Fortress and the Anadolu Fortress. You'll learn about the historical university while getting a slice of life perspective on Istanbul.

Most of all though.. THE VIEW. The university is above Aşiyan which is where Turkish poet Tevfik Fikret wrote most of his poetry and I think you'll understand why.

More recently, in 2021 Bogazici made headlines after the formal election process was bypassed by the Turkish President to appoint a partisan rector. Massive protests erupted involving both students and faculty lasting for 500+ days uninterrupted. You can hear about students' experience with the protests and the following witch hunt by the administration.

Security measures have been amped up since then and outside visitors are normally not allowed.... but we'll arrange an exception for you ;) Entry fee and ID required, details shared upon booking.
