Tour description
The Tour de Leith will take us through the streets of what is considered the fourth coolest neighborhood in the world to live in .
Choose Leith! Choose Leith!
We will see first-hand the buildings and churches that served as the location for the Sailors' Guilds and customs houses that proliferated in the area, as well as the gardens where the first 13 rules of golf were laid down and where the first Golf Open in history was held.
Of course, we will talk about the great Bubonic Plague that decimated three quarters of the population of Leith and we will visit the Cemetery of the South Leith Parish Church.
Leith is home to an ancient port that saw the landing of kings and queens who shaped the past, present and future of this country. We must delve into its history to understand the fundamental role that this neighbourhood has played in the history of Scotland.
We will approach the world of the arts to learn about the biography of Eduardo Paolozzi, a famous resident of this neighborhood and creator of POP art, and we will also learn about the locations of the novel and subsequent cult film "Trainspotting" , as well as the biography of its author, Irvine Welsh.
A tour in which we will enjoy picturesque canals and in which we will talk about architecture, history, literature, art and cinema.
