Hello York! Romans, Vikings, Normans and Beyond!
Tour description
This tour will resume in June 2025
Prepare for 2000 years of history in 90 minutes. We will see everything from Roman remains to Medieval Buildings. Norman Castles to the Industrial Revolution. York is a city where eras of history sit right next to one another and tell the story of English history in breath taking beauty.
I have had the pleasure of living in York for several years and love to show people around what I consider to be England's most picturesque city.
Starting at York Minster, Northern Europe's second largest gothic cathedral we will look at what remains of Roman York and the legacy they left behind. We then travel through time along Stonegate and past England's oldest continually operating pub. Next we'll travel by Snickleway to The Shambles a 13th century street that is about as close to Diagon Alley as you can get.
We then head to Clifford's tower a Norman castle site of sieges, massacres and a prison. We then head along the banks of the river Ouse to the Museum Gardens a wonderful botanic garden with over 4500 different species of flora and fauna as well as a ruined abbey, Roman wall and a classical inspired museum.
10% of all tips received on the tour go to a local York based charity called Restore who provide accommodation to people who would otherwise be homeless. By joining this tour and giving a tip at the end you are helping to better the lives of the people in the city and make a real positive difference to the world.
