Hi! My name is José. I'm an official tour guide and a graduate in Information Sciences. My passion for guiding and transmitting stories of different places to travelers from all over the world has led me to work for years in places like Norway, Madrid, Toledo, Segovia, Ávila, and of course, Vitoria. I'd love that you can have a good memory of your visit to Vitoria, so I will show you what the old town of this incredible city contains. Vitoria is the capital of the Basque Country and it was chosen European Green Capital in 2012, World Green Capital in 2019 and a city which undoubtedly deserves to be much more known. So, if you want to have a good time discovering Vitoria in a fun way, with good humor and of course, in a warm environment , now you know where you can sign up. See you in Vitoria-Gasteiz! 😊
We will visit the most important points of interest in the medieval old town, where the ancient town of Gasteiz was located before the current city of Vitoria was founded.
We will start in the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca , the scene of the mythical festivities at the beginning of August and known for its famous green letters that form the name of the city.
We will talk about the nearby Churches of San Miguel and San Vicente and the history of Celedón , that doll with an umbrella that is the symbol of the Vitoria festivities. Before reaching the remains of the wall , we will visit the historic Plaza del Machete and the peculiar Palace of Villa Suso and we will pass by a medieval refrigerator.
On the way to the Cathedral we will pass by some of the most important stately palaces in the old town, such as Montehermoso or Escoriaza-Esquivel .
Once we know all the stories that the cathedral contains, we will end our tour in the Plaza de la Burullería , which houses some of the oldest buildings preserved in Vitoria.
Plaza de la Virgen Blanca, next to the green letters of Vitoria-Gasteiz. I will be next to the letters about 15 minutes before the tour starts with a black cap and/or a pennant.
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
