I am a Historian and an English teacher. I am also a certified tour guide and I have been working in Florianópolis for over 8 years. I've lived abroad in the USA, Belgium and Colombia, so, in addition to Portuguese, I speak English, French and Spanish. I was lucky enough to participate in many bike tours, walking tours and guided trails while traveling the world and these experiences are great inspirations and references for my work. I'm looking forward to showing you around!
Architecture, urban legends and traditions are perfectly combined on this free tour of Florianópolis. Prepare yourselves to discover the history of the capital of Santa Catarina!
At the scheduled time we'll meet at the stairs of the Metropolitan Cathedral to begin this free tour around Florianópolis. Once we're all together, we'll begin the tour around the historic centre, popularly known as Floripa, and we'll learn of the secrets of its most important monuments and buildings.
Who were the first inhabitants of the island of Santa Catarina? While we walk, we'll learn about the indigenous tribes that founded Florianópolis, taking us back to the 17th century, a time marked by the arrival of Portuguese colonisers and African slaves.
After learning about the founders of the nicknamed "magic island", we'll make our way to the Cruz e Sousa Palace, the old headquarters of the State Government, and the November 15th Square. The beauty of these places will amaze you!
We'll continue exploring Florianópolis walking around Largo da Alfândega until we reach the Public Market. The following stop will be at the façade of the Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Homens Pretos Church. In addition, we'll also pass by the Álvaro de Carvalho Theatre, one of the most beautiful monuments in the city.
Before finishing, we'll walk down Hercílio Luz Avenue until we arrive at Santa Bárbara Fort, two locations that must be discussed in order to understand Florianópolis.
After 2 hours of a guided visit, the Florianópolis free tour will come to an end at the Miramar Memorial.
We will meet at the stairs of the Cathedral, and I will be wearing a tour guide credential.
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
