Discover Zanzibar Town, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. It is an ancient part of Zanzibar Town and the former capital of the Zanzibar Sultanate.
STONE TOWN CITY is a major visitor attraction in Zanzibar due to its unique culture, history, people and architecture.
The STONE TOWN CITY WALKING TOUR is a 3-hour guided tour. On this walking tour you will have the opportunity to visit all the interesting places and historical monuments, such as the House of Wonders, the old fort, the Palace Museum, the old slave trade market, Fred Mercury's house and Darajani Market where commercial auctions are held.
Additionally, your local tour guide will take you walking through the streets of Stone Town to see street food, discover all the gates of Zanzibar and shop in local stores.
- House of Wonders: (Formally the Sultan's Resistance) was built in 1883 by Sultane Baraghash, the second Sultane of Zanzibar.
- Old fort: it was built in the 17th century by the Omanis, it has an approximately square shape. Currently it is a cultural center with shops inside and a small stadium where dance and live music shows are held.
- Palace Museum: also known as the Sultan's Palace, it was built in the 19th century. In this museum you will learn the history of Princes Salme, former daughter of Sayyed Said Sultane of Zanzibar.
- Visit to the old slave trading market: Historic Zanzibar was a center of trade in East Africa, especially the slave trade, which was organized by Sayyed Said Sultane of Zanzibar.
- Visit Darajani Market to see commercial auctions such as the fish auction.
- Visit to the Forodhani night market.
- Visit Fred Mercury's house.
Visiting all these interesting places takes 2 and a half hours.
