Zagreb - Upper town walking tour
Tour description
Our tour starts at Square Ban Jelačić. We continue to Kaptol and the Cathedral. To get to the other part of the old town - Gradec, we will cross Dolac, the main market. Next stop is Tkalčić Street, one of the liveliest streets. Since Gradec was a free royal city for centuries, it had its own wall. The only city gate that is still preserved is the Stone Gate, where the image of the Virgin is kept. We will continue, passing by the oldest pharmacy in the city, to the center of political life => Square St. Mark, where the Parliament, the Constitutional Court and the Government, are located. The square is also significant for the church, unique for its famous roof. Through Ćirilometodska Street, we reach the Saint Katarina Square, where is located baroque Church of St. Katarina, as well as the first Zagreb high school. Our tour of Upper part of Zagreb ends at the Lotrščak tower, from which the cannon Grič marks noon for more than 100 years. Here is also the Funicular, the shortest cable railway in the world intended for public transport. After the funicular we descend back to Ilica, and towards the square, the end of our tour.
